Overview
We are seeking a passionate full-time Associate Pastor of Students and Families to lead and nurture the spiritual growth of our students, while also investing in and equipping parents to understand their role as the primary disciple-makers of their children. The Associate Pastor will be responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging student ministry program (for those in middle and high school), fostering strong relationships with our students and their families, and guiding the younger generations in our church on their faith journey.
 
Description
Student Ministry
The Associate Pastor will devote approximately 70% of his time to student ministry. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Spiritual Leadership
    • Provide biblical teaching and disciple students in a way that is relevant and inspiring; lead students in worship, prayer, and the study of Scripture; serve as a spiritual mentor, offering guidance and support to our students in their faith.
  • Student Ministry Development
    • Create and implement a comprehensive student ministry program tailored to the needs of different age groups; organize and oversee youth events, youth Sunday School, activities, and camps to foster community and growth; develop leadership opportunities for students within the church; recruit/train volunteers to aid in student ministry.
  • Relationship Building
    • Build strong relationships with students and their families, providing a caring and supportive presence; engage with parents to keep them informed and involved in their children's spiritual journey; attend sporting events and other school activities; maintain a presence in locals school and the community.
Equipping Parents
The Associate Pastor will devote approximately 25% of his time to investing in the parents of our students. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Equipping Parents
    • Assist and train parents to lead in family devotional time; help parents help their children to develop a meaningful and growing relationship with Christ, to cultivate a biblical worldview, and to apply biblical truths to everyday life.
  • Supporting Parents
    • Provide biblical instruction and resources to parents so they can be prepared to navigate the cultural challenges they and their children face; facilitate opportunities for marriage and parenting enrichment.
Children’s Ministry 
The Associate Pastor will devote approximately 5% of his time to children’s ministry. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing
    • Work alongside children’s ministry leaders to ensure programs are adequately funded, resourced, and operating effectively and efficiently.
General Duties
  • Use social media to connect students and parents with church activities and events
  • Oversee the children’s, student, and family ministry budgets
  • Preach during the Sunday morning worship service as needed and regularly assist in other pastoral duties, including pastoral care, visitation, counseling, funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.
 
Qualifications 
  • Is a spiritually mature (but growing) born-again believer in Jesus Christ who doctrinally aligns with the Baptist Faith and Message
  • Meets the qualifications of a pastor as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9
  • Has the heart of a servant, values personal integrity, and strives to live and model a lifestyle worthy of the gospel (Philippians 1:27)
  • Considers himself to be a lifelong learner who continues to sharpen and expand his personal skillset through reading, conferences, and further education
  • Has strong interpersonal and communication skills across all ages, but especially able to connect with middle and high school students and their parents
  • Is a team player who values working alongside volunteers to accomplish the task at hand
  • Must pass a background check
  • College/seminary education preferred, but not required
  • Must have prior experience with student and family ministry

Competitive salary package with additional reimbursement for mileage.

Community and Student Overview
Kennett, with a population of around 10,000, is the largest community in the predominantly agricultural area of Southeast Missouri known as the Bootheel. The city is located approximately 100 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee and 100 miles south of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Other population centers that are less than one hour away include Jonesboro, Arkansas and Dyersburg, Tennessee. St. Louis and Nashville are both within a three-hour drive. Kennett School District serves a total enrollment of just over 1,900 students including approximately 550 high school students and 450 middle school students. Elementary students are served on two campuses.

Church Profile
Founded in 1887, God has blessed First Baptist Kennett with a long and rich presence in our community. Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, our multi-generational church is dedicated to investing in the next generation. We average 150 in Sunday School and 185 in worship. An average of 15-20 youth from both inside and outside church membership regularly participate in student ministry activities.
